Jeffery "Marathon" Charles ; 1948- 2011
Jeffery "Marathon" Charles passed away on Wednesday, February 10, after a year of
battling colon-liver cancer.
Jeffery played in a band called Fate Changers and was an accomplished singer,
songwriter and percussionist. He also produced and hosted the cable TV shows
"Marathon's Other News", "Pandora's Box", and "Finders Keepers"--the latter of which
is about finding coins and precious objects with metal detectors, and is still running.
Jeffery was a close friend and documentarian of George Clayton Johnson, appearing with
George all over the Southland in recent years. One of Jeffery's short films, "Your Three
Minutes Are Up", featuring George reading one of his short stories, was screened at
the Egyptian Theatre/Cinematecheque last year.
Jeffery was a generous, cheerful, and outgoing person -- he is survived by his wife
Crystal and will be remembered and missed by his friends. -- by L.J. Dopp.
